About Fietsenmakers
FPD was founded in 2011 by mechanical engineers Thom van Beek and Jodi Kooijman. They propagate the Systems Engineering approach to a structured design process which ensures that larger design spaces are explored and more complete solutions are found to engineering challenges. Some company trivia:
The name
Fietsenmakers Product Developers is a combination of two languages Dutch and English, the languages Dutch engineers automatically speak. It also links to the multi-disciplinary nature of the challenges we face in our projects.-
Fietsenmakers
is the Dutch name for “bicycle repairmen” and is a “wink” to our core competence. The layman term for engineers in the Netherlands is the fietsenmaker. Furthermore amongst the different engineering disciplines the mechanical engineers are often called the fietsenmakers. On top of this Jodi actually spent 6 years researching bicycle dynamics and control, first as part of his masters work, and then for his PhD,( and was known as the fietsenmaker of the department by all the foreign students who had problems with their bicycle). -
The product development process
is what drives us. Rigorously applying the Systems Engineering and Systematic Design approach in the development of products is what sets us apart.
